The Restless Rows Crochet Table Runner Pattern

The Restless Rows Collection continues with the Restless Rows Table runner! It’s the perfect pair for the Restless Rows Hand Towel.

As someone with a mind that’s always running, crochet has been a consistent way that I can sit down with the chaos swirling in my head and find some calm. The Restless Rows Collection is meant to capitalize on the things that have always helped me find that space—repetition and most importantly.. NO COUNTING (except for the starting chain.. no way around that..)!

These patterns are made for the crocheter who needs/desires movement, but also ease.

Materials needed:

Abbreviations:

  • Blo-back loop only
  • Ch-chain
  • Hdc-half double crochet
  • Rep-repeat
  • Sl st-slip stitch
  • St(s)-stitch(es)

Skill Rating:

Beginner

Finished size:

68” long x 10” wide but can easily be adapted by adding stitches to the starting chain (will increase length) or adding rows (will increase width). For it to hang over the edges of your table, you will want your starting chain to be at least 6” longer than your table.

Gauge:

4×4”= 15 hdc sts x 11 rows

Tips:

  • Border is worked in the round. Do not turn after working each round of the border
  • ch-1 at beginning of round does NOT count as a st throughout the pattern

Pattern:

Ch 238

Row 1: hdc in the second ch from the hook, hdc in each ch to the end of the row, ch 1 and turn

Row 2: hdc in the blo of each st to the end of the row, ch 1 and turn

Demonstrates where to insert the hook to work in the back loop only

Row 3-22: rep row 2

Row 23: hdc in the blo of each st until one st remains, DO NOT TURN

Border

Round 1:

  • Side 1– 3 sc in st left un-worked at the end of round 23 to make first corner *2 sc in the end of one row, 1 sc in the end of the next row, rep from * until one row remains on side 1, 3 sc in the last row (will make corner)
  • Side 2– 1 sc in each ch until one ch remains on side 2, 3 sc in the last st (will make corner)
  • Side 3– *2 sc in the end of one row, 1 sc in the end of the next row, rep from * until one row remains on side 3, 3 sc in the last row (will make corner)
  • Side 4– 1 sc in each st until you reach the middle sc of the corner made at the beginning of side 1, DO NOT TURN
Demonstrates working 3 sc in the last st of row 33 to make the corner
Shows how to work sc sts for side 1 and 3 of round 1. I alternated working 1 sc in the end of each wrong side row and 2 sc in the end of each right side row

Round 2-3: 3 sc in each corner, sc in each sc to the end of the round until you reach the first sc of the round. DO NOT TURN

What the border looks like finished

After round 3, sl st to join with the first sc of the round, fasten off and weave in ends
